BLOG - Virus continues... |
Big sigh....
We are so glad the last few days are over for us. With the both of us catching this "dreaded lurgy" we are happy to say we are both fully recovered. Paul, bless his cotton socks, worked so hard while I was ill, he did double shifts so we could enjoy our time together in the best ports of this cruise... Croatia (Dubrovnik) and the Island of Corfu Greece.
The first blow came when we found out these two ports were "tender ports" in other words, we anchor away from the shore (no concrete dock) and then use our lifeboats to ferry passengers back and forth to the ship. With over 1700 hundred passengers and lifeboats ranging in size from 25 to 100, this takes up half of the day. Dubrovnik took even longer as we couldnt get very close to the shore at all. So when we tender the passengers get off first and then the crew, which means we "might" get off sometime after lunch.
We were disappointed that our glorious day off Paul worked so hard for was cut in half... and then the second blow came. "no crew leave today" they told us... that means we couldnt get off at all and guess why? This bloody virus on board the ship!!!
You see the crew dont have the virus, its only the passengers now. And... if we sit in a bus or a small boat with the passengers and one of them vomits or accidentally becomes incontinent....(sorry for the details, but its relevant) the virus becomes airborn and it is highly contagious at that point! The crew would then catch it and keep circulating it to the passengers and this saga would continue... so they say....
So, not a single member of crew could get off the ship and you should have seen the port, it was spectacular!!!
After spending the last four weeks in Denmark and Norway with arctic winds and snow... we finally made it to the sunshine and werent allowed off the boat!!!
Oh.... it gets better.... we thought... when we picked our chins up off the floor.... we thought...thats ok, we will use our time to practice our routines, cos we've had so little time... Nah Ahh.... they scheduled us with work... all through the day!
The next day was the same "no crew leave" lots of scheduled work and the best bit now comes. The crew arent allowed in any of the public rooms (unless working) that means no fresh air.. no walking onto the decks.. no seeing the water... no gym access.. no activitites... no fraternizing with other crew... no nothing! Work, home and straight to bed...!!! ARGHHHHH!!!!!
