We are in this gorgeous little island in the Caribbean... St Lucia.
Its a stormy, sultry, windy day today and we've just sailed for 2 days in rough seas to get here. We've had lots of fun performing in the rough seas, lots of spins and turns on stage, left us with dizzy, whoozy feeling but the crowd loved it.
St Lucia looks like a fabulous place, the population is around 160,000 and its very relaxed, funky and musical. Our good friends from the QE2 come from this place (Arnie and the band members from Opus) and they are fabulous musicians with such a wonderful feel about them, we can now see where it all comes from.
On this cruise both Paul and I are escorting a few guest tours today Paul is on a Jeep Safari adventure and I'm wandering about town, just about to head out to the farmers market and the craft market, it looks fantastic. Later this week I will get to swim with stingrays and feed them by hand apparently!! Then we will do some more jungle trekking, safari-ing and hopefully some horseback riding through the Caribbean ocean :-)
Last week a group of crew headed into the Costa Rican jungle to swing from the trees on a canopy adventure. 15 of us made the rough journey up the pott-hole ridden roads to the top of the mountain where we were greeted by this gorgeous oasis jungle resort.
We trekked on foot up the mountain some more and then we started swinging!! At first we were all very polite about it, grabbing hold, looking at the view, maybe a view shrieks and whoops here and there. By the end of it, I was swinging updside down, legs kicking about wildly to get more momentum, helmet flying off, screaming just for the fun of it!!! "push me real fast this time".... I said to the operator as he gave me a big heave ho and sent me on my way. I kicked as hard as I could to push myself upside down and let go of everything. What a fantastic experience swinging through the jungle, holding onto nothing, upside down!!! Sorry mum, but it was fuuuuuunnnnn :-)
That was our first experience in Costa Rica, no time to see anything else, we jumped onto the crew bus, chatted wildly about our experiences and fell asleep within about 5 minutes. What a great day with our new-found friends :-)
After having such a wonderful time, we find ourselves a little stressed today. Our applications for "seamans books" have been delayed and since we cannot get into South America without them, well.... we might be looking at getting off the ship until they arrive :-( So fingers crossed, please Mister Mailman, please hurry with our post :-)
