The 70s 80s Disco Party went nuts at the Chelsea Heights Hotel with over 750 people in attendance!

Top five highlights of the night

Number 5.....Having my magnificent new white, patent leather platform boots (with red flames) checked out by one of the older guys.  He gooed and ahhhhhed over my boots, touching them, telling me how fabulous they were.  Each time he admired my boots he got lower and lower on the body scale.  I could see he just needed a little nudge and I asked him "so you really like my boots dont you?" he replied "oh yes, they are fantastic" I pushed on "so... would you like to kiss my boots?" I asked cheekily, he relied "oh yes" and eagerly proceeded to the floor.  It just so happens our photographer was there to capture the special moment!

Number 4....."Cheryl we need you" says Paul "the dancers are here and they need you to approve their costumes" he says as he leads me to the cloakroom / makeshift change room.  I greet the girls, they are young, real young, cute and sweet.  "We just want to check our costume with you and make sure it's ok" says one of them as she pulls out a pair of red gloves, a red wig, a pair of red boots.  She lays them neatly on the floor as I say "and what else will you be wearing with it?" she replies "oh, just underpants and a bra" as it were nothing at all.  And she wasn't kidding either, they took to the podium in a pair of Bonds cotton underpants (black of course) and a nice coating of body glitter!

Number 3.....As the band was just getting into it, the entire crowd was focused on centre stage, complete with full ABBA costumes they were pumping out the 80s tunes with energy... and then there was a subtle red light off to the left hand side... then the flicker of activity and there they were, in all their glory, two of Melbournes best Go Go Dancers up on the podium dancing as though their lives depended on it.  One by one, the heads in the crowd turned their focus from the band to the podium and then as if they were lemmings the men in the room started to move their way steadily towards the light. One, after the other, slowly and steadily...one guy didn't even look where he was going, beer in hand, he just stayed focused on the girls and kept walking as if in a trance. After a few minutes, we noticed one of the guys standing about 2 feet away from the dancers, just grinning, learning on a balcony and absolutely glued to their every movement.

Number 2.....The best part about costume or theme parties is how free everyone is.  The social barriers seem to be broken and a central theme of communication is made available. In a room of 750 people, I can safely say I met over half of the people purely because I was in costume.  That would never have happened if I was dressed in my usual clothes.  As a result, I had an absolute ball and so did Paul.  We love any opportunity to get dressed up, be silly, laugh and have a great time!

Number 1..... As I walked through the crowd to find out photographer I was greeted by a well weathered man holding out a business card.  I took the card from his hand, curious about his intentions.  I looked "Pete" in the eye as he casually said ... "I know you probably won't phone me but here's my card anyway, I think you're gorgeous" I said "Well thanks Pete but do you see that man over there with the really huge afro?" as I gestured behind me to Paul.  "Well, he's my boyfriend and I'm really happy with him" I responded trying to be gracious.  Without delay, Pete replied with a mixture of confidence and hopelessness "Well, keep it anyway... for when you split up with him"!  Classy!!!
