DANCE101 Cleans up at Salsa Competition!

Incredible results for the DANCE101 crew on Friday April 18 at the Amateur Salsa Competition (Copacabana).

With over 30 competitors on the floor and 150 guests in the venue, the DANCE101 presence was massive.  Every heat was met with roars, cheers, screams and whistles as the DANCE101 crew supported their fellow dancers. The competition had three sections, Beginners, Intermediate & Advanced.  All competitors were completely Amateur with some competitors only having danced as little as 4 weeks before plucking up the courage to enter.

We congratulate every person for taking up the challenge to step onto the floor and do what it takes to put yourself out there.  No matter whether you placed or not, it was a huge achievement just to complete the training program, co-operate with your partner and take on the possibility of progressing your dancing to the next level.  It's easy to say you want to do something, but to actually get up and do what it takes, well that's where the real challenge lies.  Congratulations to everyone that got onto the floor, you were an inspiration and we applaud your courage, sense of adventure and willingness to give something a go!

Below are the DANCE101 results for the evening, it was an outstanding success with DANCE101 students taking a place in every category and in the Beginner Category we achieved a complete Trifecta!  1st, 2nd and 3rd Place!

3rd Place - Advanced Section

Congratulations to Adrian and Yvette who took out 3rd place in the Advanced section.  With only 24 hours preparation for the competition, they did an outstanding job of looking connected, smooth and dynamic at the same time.  With a recent hip injury (Yvette) and broken bones in his feet (Adrian) these guys did an awesome job of just winging it and giving it everything.  Well done guys, great work! (Sorry no photo of the couple yet)

3rd Place & Peoples Choice - Intermediate Section

A fabulous result in the Intermediate section with Kate & Franky taking out the Peoples Choice Award (voted most popular by the audience) and third place position at their very first entrance to Intermediate level.  Their entertaining antics were met with hysterical laughter and wild cheers as they worked the crowd and had an absolute ball on the dance floor.  That little skit with the tie worked wonders with the judges, they were stifling their laughter as their eyes were glued to the two of you!  Great work guys, you were an awesome combination! 1st Place - Beginner Section

Congratulations to Adam and Lesley who, after just 10 weeks of dancing, took out 1st Place in the Beginner Section!  Adam and Lesley looked fabulous on the floor, their timing was fantastic and they had a great connection and presence.  Despite their "artistic dancers tiff" just before the competition, Adam and Lesley did a great job of just letting go of "what should be" and lived in the moment.  Two natural born showpeople with a bright future for inspiring others to dance, these guys were a joy to watch. Well done, awesome work in your first competition!

2nd Place - Beginner Section

Congratulations to Troy and Loraine, what an inspiration!  Loraine was deeply concerned she was too old for this competition.  After a little persuasion, she entered the competition and snapped up a funky young partner with oodles of spunk.  Despite "doing her hip" in the first heat, Loraine went on to put in a sterling performance for the finals and came in 2nd for their first Salsa competition ever!

Well done to the two of you, your fun, freedom and happines on the dancefloor inspired many and you made us all giggle with the sillyness and freedom dance can bring to everyone!

3rd Place & Peoples Choice - Beginner Section

Congratulations to Raymond and Andrea who took out the Peoples Choice Award in the Beginner Section and 3rd Place.  Well, what can we say! Raymonds performance was met with exhilarating laughter, huge crowd support and gobsmacked judges that couldn't keep their eyes off his energetic choreography.  His energetic leaps and bounds were so hypnotizing that even his partner was dumbfounded by his energy levels.  Andrea did a great job of complementing Raymonds energy, her subtle and elegant movement worked really well with Raymonds dynamic dance style.

Great job guys, you were entertaining, fabulous to watch and just bundles of fun!

Acknowledgements

Thank you to all the family and friends that came along to support your people, it meant alot for them to have you there on the evening.  Thank you also to Caley for her fanclub support, those pompoms were great!  The atmosphere in the venue was electric, so many DANCE101 students came down to support and enjoy the evening, it was great to have you there, hopefully we will see a few of you on the floor next time!

We want to take this opportunity to really acknowledge the competitors who didn't place but did a wonderful job on and off the competition floor.  Many of you had never competed before and quite a few of you had just moved to the next level in the competition.  Over the past six weeks we have seen your dancing change and grow and we are so proud of your efforts.  We want to acknowledge you for your courage and determination you showed in getting onto the floor and doing what it takes to work with a partner (and yourself) to take things to that next level.
