DANCE101 winter holiday games1Six days off, what to do?

Last week, we were treated to the rare luxury of doing whatever we wanted for six whole days.  With no plans, no commitments and no expectations the choices were endless!  We could go to Movieworld, Seaworld, Dreamworld, shop, learn to surf, eat, dance, heaven forbid, even have a few drinks!

And guess what we did with our precious time off?

Absolutely nothing!   We caught up with our two bestest friends who were also tired and in need of a good rest and we just spent time together.  We slept late, ate late and relaxed.

Our phones went off, we had limited email and a few days of glorious sunshine.

So we sat by the pool, chatted, planned our lives and discussed our mutually shared passions.  We had a fabulous dinner with an eternally inspiring ex colleague of mine, a rare opportunity to have quality time with such a brilliant mind.

DANCE101 winter holiday games1When the rain comes

When the rain came pouring down as it does in QLD, it was a great excuse to escape from our hectic schedule and treat ourselves to another shared passion, video games!  We toddled off to one of the best Timezones in Australia, Surfers Paradise!  We spent countless hours playing our favorite games with our $25 bumper bonus cards, all you can play for three whole hours!  Along with everyone else on the goldcoast who decided to get out of the rain, we challenged every 8 and ten year old to a battle on our favorite game, just so we wouldn’t have to get off it.  I now have 15 our of 20 top scores on the latest dancing game! And sore everything to prove it!

DANCE101 winter holiday games1 The best part was when I sat down at one of Pauls favorite games “the stacker” at which he’s spent countless hours and money trying to win the “major prize” that never seems possible.  I sat down, swiped my bumper bonus card, whacked away casually at this “tremendously difficult game” that had defeated Paul for so long, and before you knew I had won the major prize, it was being slowly wheeled out of its  holding position and dropping onto the floor of this game.  Naturally I started shouting “I won a Wii, I won a Wii” to anyone that looked in my direction.  My 8 year old dance partner who had been challenging me (defeated I might add) asked excitedly “can you win me something? You’re really good at this!”  I chuckled to myself, swiped my card again and whahdyaknow?  I’m no longer eligible to play this game!

DANCE101 winter holiday games1Trip Highlight

The highlight of this trip has to have been the incident that provided a source of constant laughter for the whole six days.  It happened on day one, as we left the airport actually.  My caring, considerate partner Paul, who wants only the best for me felt threatened when the lovely man sitting next to us on the plane offered us a ride.  Paul felt uncomfortable taking a ride from a stranger so as we exited the airport he scanned for alternative transport options.  There it was! A handsome shuttle bus parked right outside the front door!  For the princely sum of $4.10 each, we would be taken to our hotel room on this shuttle. So we jumped  on board and putted off towards the coast.  Not less than 2 minutes later the driver pulled up at a bus stop and ordered us out of the bus.  We resisted saying this was not our hotel, he replied “no, you get out here, another bus No. 700 come to pick you up”  So like little lemmings we hopped off the bus and sat at the bus stop outside the airport.  Bus no. 765 flew past, 783 went by, 788 roared past and one hour DANCE101 winter holiday games1later, no Bus no. 700 was to be seen.

We complained to the next bus driver, she ordered us onto her bus and drove for about 15 minutes then ordered us off the bus and told us to catch another bus, she was only going half way!  We waited for the next bus, hopped on then got dropped off and told to walk, down this street, up that street, cross here, go there and then we would be at our hotel room!

So with steam coming out my ears, I carted my luggage along the paved footpath, cursing every rattle  “if only we caught that ride, with that nice man” I thought to myself.  If only…. A 30 minute trip would not have been turned into a painful, annoying, irritating two and a half hour journey!

Acknowledgements

When we returned home late last night we realized how much we had enjoyed taking time out and we also realized how many people supported us to have such a blissful, quiet six days.  We wanted to say a quick thank you to a few people that helped have such a wonderful break

DANCE101 winter holiday games1Brett and Henry, thank for your generosity, we had a fabulous time, we realized we wouldn’t have taken the time if you hadn’t offered it.

Demi, cheap flights make traveling so much more attractive.  For two hard working people watching their budget, cheap flights meant we actually took a break and go away from anything and everything that would have kept us working.

Michelle, thanks for looking after our house, our bird, our fish and our business.  You are a godsend, we appreciate everything you have done, whether we noticed it or not.

Adrian, dude, you’re the best, thanks for your support, you are such a resource for us, there whenever we need you, we really appreciate your support.

Susie & Keenan for just stepping in when things change, you guys are so focused, so determined and on the job, thanks a bunch

Lucy for arranging support for us, you have been such a wonderful advocate out west, we really appreciate your help, thank you

To all our students and friends, you may not know it but you all did the same thing, you didn’t call or email us!  It’s almost like a silent vigil to let us have peace and quiet!   Its wonderful to spend time with you and have the life we have but it was glorious to take time out and just be still, quiet and get some energy back.

Thank you to everyone for letting us have a week off from our lifes passion, we love what we do so much that we love to do it 7 days a week, but we do need time off every now and then and we thank you for your support.
