Everyone needs a holiday..

November 2009
Our July holiday was just a little late this year, we were so busy with our house move and getting our new teachers up and running that we completely forgot to take a break!
So it was wonderful to take a short break and head up to sunny QLD in a wonderful apartment with views of the river and the ocean. We were so tired we didnt even have the energy to do anything at first.
Wet & Wild - But we plucked up the energy to take a visit to our favorite theme park on the gold coast. We started in the "kiddie zone" with some pretty basic water slides n stuff. Pauls face was hysterical, that gorgeous big mouth grin was out all day but when we hit a particular part of a ride, he squealed just like a little girl, it was absolutely side splitting. (Photos coming)
We went over to the H20 Extreme section where all the crazy teens hang out, we did the first ride and after watching Paul turn pale, scream my name with terror and swear never to get back on again, I knew we had reached his limit. (No photos of that one :-)
Oh.... no photos of his shorts that went see-through and to my horror he'd left his underpants at home!
Season 5 Lost - I know its not cool but we got hooked on it on the cruiseships and well, we cant break the habit! As the big tropical thunderstorm settled in, we pulled out the sofa-bed and turned all the lights out watching episode after episode until our bodies hung limp with relaxation.
Falling, Bumping, Hurting, Bruising - If you know Paul, you will know he underestimates the size of his body on a regular basis. He's also not terribly co-ordinated in the mornings and frequently loses the ability to speak English or any other language. These last 7 days have had him bump into every wall in the apartment (multiple times) accidently sit on me or parts of me (several times), drop just about everything, knock me over, fall over himself and create random bruises on both his and my body. For one so co-ordinated, I just dont get it!
Illnesses make us grow stronger - I mentioned in the newsletter that they say that after every childhood illness the child grows in their ability to make their way through their own life. I believe when we take time out from our life, we create a space to grow and that's exactly what happens to me everytime I take a holiday. Some knew insight appears, a new goal, clarity in direction and my purpose in life.
Thanks to everyone that allowed us to take this wonderful break.
This blog is a personal account of the journey of Paul Zaidman and Cheryl Smith dating back to March 2005 when we first were recruited to sail onboard the QE2 as dancers, performers and teachers.
What started as a 4 month contract turned into almost two years as we progressed to the number 1 cruiseline, Crystal Cruises. This blog was updated regularly with photos and stories.
The latest updates are from the most recent cruises in January 2010
