What a gorgeous day in port, stunning sunshine and then calm oceans, we are at sea now, somewhere between Santiago and Lima, Peru. Jetlag has been amazing, we are both exhausted and even after a solid nights sleep of over 10 hours, we still needed two naps during the day!

The ship is just awesome, the $10million refurbishment is fantastic, all new lounges, chairs and spa on the pool deck, a brand new nightclub with jaw-dropping design and swarovski crystal curtains!

The most incredible thing about Crystal Cruiselines is in corporate speak “staff retention” we see the same faces after 3 years away, in the same jobs, with the same smiles AND they remember us, after all the people they see, they call out our names and shout across the room “Welcome Back, its so nice to see you!”.

The thing about Crystal Cruiselines is that any good operator can put together a ship, the entertainment, the food, the itinerary…but I don’t know any company that treats their staff as good as Crystal, in all my corporate years, I’ve never seen anything like, never heard of anyone that works this way. Its just amazing and it extends to the guests and that’s why they are number 1 on the high seas.

My favorite activity on the ship is one I can’t plan for, I have no control over and always always takes me by surprise. It’s being surpised by the amazing comments that come my way from the guests onboard. Not the standard comments, no they are predictable and overused “oh you’re a dancer, I saw your show, lovely!”. No not those comments but interesting, intriguing and always entertaining. I never take offence, others might but we are in such a privileged position her, its hard to get upset about anything.

My favorite comments today are

  1. This morning, as I lean against the computer room desk, waiting to be served so I can get my wifi up and running…. A lady comes up to me, stands next to me, quite closely, she looks me up and down and says “You don’t work here do you, no you’re too pretty to work here!.”
  1. Later on in the day, I am standing in a line and an elderly, rather wealthy looking lady came up next to me, looked me up and down and said “hrrmmphhh…. So skinny” and then walked away

We hope you are having a wonderful time and we don’t miss you at all!

This blog is a personal account of the journey of Paul Zaidman and Cheryl Smith dating back to March 2005 when we first were recruited to sail onboard the QE2 as dancers, performers and teachers.

What started as a 4 month contract turned into almost two years as we progressed to the number 1 cruiseline, Crystal Cruises. This blog was updated regularly with photos and stories.

The latest updates are from the most recent cruises in January 2010
